Maori Language Moment - Room 3

Today at 12pm the whole world are doing something to support the Maori Language week moment. Pt England School decided to do something as-well, we are singing a beautiful song thats in Te Reo Maori. Room 3 has recorded what we did for the Maori Language week this week. 

In 1972, 30,000 signatures were delivered to Parliament to safeguard the Maori Language. 

 Safe-guard means to protect The Maori language needed to be protected.

- Why I think that the Maori land needed to be protected, was because the people haven't been speaking there language and the Maori language is getting lost
-The Maori language needed to be protected because if it wasn't getting protected people can do whatever they want, and they can also do hurtful things/sad things to people in the country
-The Maori were not valuing there language.

Virtual Library

Task Description: In literacy we have been making our Virtual Library. We have been doing our Virtual library because our literacy teacher "Ms Tipene" told us that we should start reading books offline.

Taha Wairua

This is just a message to all of you out there reading this. Being depressed isn't good, it dosen't help you get out of the house, it dosen't make you do any of these or it wont make you happy at all. You will stay depressed for your life time if you do not Pray, Read the bible or sing some songs. If you are ever depressed or sad, just jump onto my blog and read this message, and I reckon this little message will help you. 

Myths and Legends - Room 3

Today room 3 has been working on a task which is myth and legends. Room 3 had to research about what Myths were and what Legends were, we also had to watch the video and pause throughout the video and research words we didn't know what it meant. ( Enjoy )

Task Description: Today room 3 has been working on a math's task. This task we are working on is all about "Dec!mals".

Today when the year 8's went to tech, all of the year 7's did three rotations. The first rotation was the Rua group went to Te Reo Maori, Toru went to sports, and Tahi did DLO. 

Greek Mythology

For today room 3 went into room 4 with Mr Hughes. We learned about "Greek Mythology", its a story based on the myth of Herms. We were in Mrs Stones class (Room 4) but we had Mr Hughes because Mrs Stone is away. We had to choose a god or goddess and make a poster about them along with some interesting facts. Blue Mountains - Room 5

Today room 3 has been switched up into different classes. Since its only Wednesday, room 3 went to room 1 and room 5. Tomorrow we are going to go room 4 and room 11, switching classes is so much fun. We get to hangout with different teachers!

Genius Hour - Piano

For the past 2 weeks I have been working on my Genius Hour! For my Genius Hour I have chosen to learn more about Pianos, Pianos are really fun to learn about!... Did you know that Pianos have 88 keys, 52 white keys and 36 shorter black keys.

This week I have been working on a task called Which Graph. This is the task, it is really fun and hard!

Matariki Day!

Maori new year - celebrating what ?

In the sky around night time there are 7 stars out on Matariki day, you can also see them clearly. The 7 stars are representing the seven sisters, Traditional Matariki was used to determine the coming seasons crop.  The 7 sisters names are Tupu a nuku, Tupu a rangi, Waiti, Waita, Wai puna rangi, and Ururangi.

Last week on friday my school celebrated Matariki. There were groups of Cooking,Sports,Arts & Crafts, and many much more, I was in the group cooking with my teacher's Mrs Tele'a and Mr Huse. My favourite highlight of Matariki was baking the cup cakes with my friend Zoe, Zoe and I got the chance to finally bake some nice cup cakes.

New Zealand should celebrate Matariki because the 7 sisters are really important. Matariki provides an ideal opportunity to explore the ways that people pass on and sustain aspect of their culture and heritage. Matariki is a time of growth and change, Matariki is the Maori name for a star constellation that rises up into the sky in mid-winter.

A game of cards

Today and Yesterday I have been working on a book called "A game of cards by Witi Ihimaera"! This book is a really good one cause its talking about Nanis Mokopunas and Nanis Kuias. There are some words that we never heard before, and we finally got the chance to get to know what it means.

The reasons I have two maps of Waituhi and Rongpai is this book takes place there.

Being someone who is grateful is important. My mum says to be to always be grateful for what you have and what you can or might receive from others. (Its a helpful way to think!)

Here are 6 things I am grateful for:

-I am grateful for having respect for those who I haven't met before

-I am grateful for having Family that takes care of me

-I am grateful for having food in the cupbards

-I am grateful for having heaps of friends at school

-I'm grateful for having clothes and shoes

-I am also grateful for having a roof over my head, and plenty of water

 

Comparing Stories

Good-Morning :)! This week I have been working on ''Comparing Stories'' using the Articles Stand up and Aotearoa Stands W/ you. This is really fun to do,Comparing Stories I really love doing this . Have a try!

What I learnt about two different articles is that one story will probably be the same as the other story. Both of these articles were very similar , because it was kind of talking about the same thing that is in the article ''Stand up'' and Stands w/ you has similar words and things that are happening.

Land Biome:

Land Biome: A land Biome is a large area of land that has the same type of climate, plants and animals. By climate, I mean the average temperature and precipitation, such as rain.

There are eight major terrstrial biomes: Tropical, Rainforest, Savannah, Subtropical, Deserts and much more! Some Land Biomes will say that there are five, some six and some more. It is common to state that there are five major Biomes.

The largest Biome is : Taiga,also known as coniferous or Boreal forest.

-Narrative Writing (Ice-Cream lovers)

Once upon a time on a nice hot sunny day, Brooklyn , Angel , Phoenix , Julieana and mum decided to go and get an ice-cream. Mum told all four of the girls to get ready and hop in the car,mum told them that they were going to get happy.The girls were joyful,when they arrived at the ice-cream store mum reached in her wallet/purse to get her money out to buy all of them an ice-cream. Mum said to the girls ``Oh no , I don't have enough money” Brooklyn said “Aww mum,I thought that's why we came because you had money for all of us to get an ice-cream” mum said “Sorry”. Angel told mum if we could go home and look for money around the house,Mum said “Yes that's a good idea”. On the way home,Phoenix was a bit sad because mum didn't have enough money for ice-cream Julieana cherred Phoenix up with singing with her and also talking to Phoenix. They arrived home,mum said lets go around the house to see if there is any money in between the cupboards and draws. 

The girls hopped out of the car happily and they were skipping into the house, Brooklyn and Angel said they were gonna look around up stairs , and Phoenix and Julieana said that they were gonna go look around down stairs with mum. Brooklyn and Angel did everything together,they were just like twins,Phoenix and Julieanan had their ups and downs but they still got along with each other. Mum found 50c under the couch,Brooklyn and Angel found 2.00 up stairs and Phoenix and Julieana found 5.00 . That all equalled 7.10c , Mum yelled out to the girls “ Lets go, we are going to get some ice-cream now “Wooohooo. The girls quickly ran into the car and were very happy. Mum said “seat belts on everybody,we got to get to an ice-cream store”, on the way to the ice-cream store,mum told Phoenix to count the money. 

When they arrived the girls got out of the car and went to wait inline for ice-cream. Brooklyn and Phoenix got a blueberry flavoured ice-cream, Julieana got a Chocolate ice-cream,Angel got a normal ice-cream and mum got a Strawberry ice-cream. They all went and sat on the chair near the ice-cream store, mum took a photo of them eating their ice-cream. It was time to go home. The girls got into the car and were very happy that they got ice-cream,mum was also happy too. 

They made it home,the girls had 1 hour to play outside and then it was their shower time,Brooklyn and Angel always played together sometimes without Phoenix and Julieana. Phoenix and Julieana asked Brooklyn and Angel if they wanted to play tag with them around the house,both of the girls said sure.After about 30 minutes,mum said to the girls to go and have a shower there was always a timetable of whos going first and whos going last.It went Phoenix , Julieana , Angel then Brooklyn. Brooklyn was always last because she is the oldest out of all the girls. The girls had a shower and mum was busy cooking dinner, when the girls finished having a shower they all went down stairs and waited till dinner was ready.

Biosphere,Geosphere

Today I have been working on the Biosphere and Geosphere. This is what I have done, it is really good to learn about our Earth and whats in our Earth!
